Telkom SA Limited announces new Chairman

Telkom shareholders are informed that:

  • Mrs Shirley Lue Arnold retires as a non-executive director and Chairman of Telkom on conclusion of her three year contract on 1 November 2009.

    Mrs Arnold presided over a number of strategic and organisational changes, including the Vodacom transaction, the African expansion and the more recent group restructure. Telkom is extremely grateful To Mrs Arnold and wishes to thank and acknowledge her for her leadership, dedication, contribution and service to the Telkom Group.
  • Mr Jeff Molobela will be appointed as a non-executive director (for a three year period) and as Chairman (for a 1 year period) with effect from 1 November 2009.

    Mr Molobela holds a BSc (Eng.) Honours degree from the Imperial College (London University) and an MBA from the Imperial College Business School (London University). He has extensive experience in financial services, has served on numerous company boards and board committees and consulted to Denel and Armscor. In 2007, Mr Molobela was involved in the development and implementation of nationwide Wi-Fi Telecoms project and was responsible for developing a business plan for a Wi-Max roll out plan for submission to ICASA.

    Mr Molobela has served on the boards of Africon Engineering limited, Transnet, Primegro Limited, CBS Properties Limited, Growthpoint properties Limited and Decillion Limited. Mr Molobela currently serves on the boards of Concorde Foundry Vereeniging, N3TC Limited and Cashbuild Limited.

The appointment of Mr Molobela is made by the Government of South Africa, Telkom's Class A shareholder holding 39.8% of the issued share capital as at 31 March 2009 in terms of the company's Articles of Association.

Telkom wishes Mrs Arnold every success in the future and welcomes Mr Molobela to the Board.
