Telkom announces the resignation of Group Regulatory Executive

The Chief Executive Officer of Telkom, Sizwe Nxasana, has announced the resignation of Victor Moche as the Telkom Group Executive for Regulatory and Public Policy.

Mr Moche leaves Telkom at the end of April. He joined the Company in 1996 as the Group Executive for Public Affairs.

Mr Nxasana also announced the appointment of Mr Nkenke Kekana as the new Telkom Group Executive for Regulatory and Public Policy effective 1 June 2003. Mr Kekana "brings a wealth of experience in telecommunications policy and regulation to his new position at Telkom and will help ensure that Telkom maximises shareholder value and maintains its leadership positions," he said. The Regulatory and Public Policy organisation at Telkom deals with issues of competition and dispute resolution, consumer protection, customer service and service delivery to communities. It also deals with issues that relate to the interpretation and implementation of the Telkom License, regulations and the Telecommunications Act.

Nkenke Kekana has been involved in the information and communication sector for the past 20 years. He has been a member of parliament since 1994 and has participated in the formulation of major telecommunications and broadcasting legislation. He has served as the chairperson of the Communications portfolio committee in the National Assembly since 1999 and in this capacity has also hosted many public hearings on communications issues such as the role of telecommunications in Africa, the quality of cellular services in South Africa and the transformation of the advertising industry.
