Telkom sets the record straight regarding power-supply media reports

Centurion, 17 October 2023 - Telkom, a leading South African telecommunications company, is issuing this statement in response to ongoing media reports regarding alleged power supply issues with the City of Joburg's City Power.

Recent media reports have suggested that Telkom, along with several business and residential customers, is facing disruptions to its power supply due to unpaid electricity bills. Telkom wishes to categorically refute these claims and clarify its financial relationship with City Power.

Telkom diligently manages its accounts and pays all bills in accordance with agreed terms. The Company is designated as a strategic account by City Power and has a dedicated key accounts manager allocated to manage its relationship with the City.

Telkom engages in regular discussions with the City regarding its accounts to ensure seamless financial transactions. Telkom is currently addressing several administrative matters related to City Power billings. It is therefore disingenuous to suggest that Telkom is not paying its bills.

Telkom owns multiple properties within the City of Johannesburg, and any billing matters are addressed promptly through established channels. Any assertion that Telkom is in arrears or at risk of having its electricity supply terminated is entirely false and misleading.

Telkom remains committed to maintaining positive and cooperative relationships with all its service providers, including the City of Johannesburg and City Power. Telkom conducts its affairs with transparency, integrity, and fiscal responsibility.
