Telkom executive gives back to alma mater

Mr Iqbal Moolla, Telkom’s Executive of Shared Services has officially opened a state-of-the-art IT Centre at Stanger Secondary School on Friday, 29 April that was made possible by the Telkom Foundation’s Adopt-a-Project initiative.

Through the programme, Mr Moolla, also a trustee on the Telkom Foundation Board, managed the donation of 30 computers and a printer for the creation of the IT centre, valued at R100 000.

The Adopt-a-Project initiative encourages Telkom executives to patron a community project of their choice in various ways through financial support, time and skills contribution. Telkom Foundation makes funds available to participants for implementation purposes.

"When my opportunity came to adopt a project, I knew instantly that my choice would be my alma mater, Stanger Secondary School – the place where I started to make my mark in life," said Mr Moolla.

He added that as a technology business, Telkom is acutely aware of the power ICTs have to seamlessly connect people to a better life. "In the age of technology no country in the world can afford to be left behind. In South Africa, with its widespread poverty, exposing all young people to the latest technology to ensure that they can one day compete on an equal footing in the workplace, remains a massive challenge."

Mr Moolla also said that one of the aims of the Telkom Foundation is to bridge the digital divide through a focus on education initiatives. "We have ring-fenced approximately 60% of our annual budget for educational activities."

  • mobile communication services, including voice services, data services and handset sales through our mobile navbar-brand called Telkom Mobile;
  •  information and communication services including cloud services, infrastructure services, workspace services, global service integration management and hardware and network equipment sales locally, in seven African countries, the UK and Dubai through Business Connexion Group; and
  • other services including directory services, through Trudon (Pty) Ltd, wireless data services, through Swiftnet (Pty) Ltd.
