Telkom’s Group CEO, Ms Nombulelo Moholi today returned to her alma mata, St John’s College in Mthatha in Eastern Cape to give back to the school that helped mould her into the great leader she is today.
Ms Moholi donated a back-up generator to the school and with a team of Telkom employees she also participated in re-painting the school building and constructed a new walkway.
The goodwill project stems from the Telkom Foundation’s Adopt-A-Project Programme which affords Telkom’s Executives the opportunity to actively get involved in assisting communities in various ways through financial support, time and skills contribution.
Speaking to learners at the school, Ms Moholi recalled her years at St John’s College and how the staff instilled in her a passion for maths and science. To this end she hoped that this gesture would express her deep gratitude to the school and its teachers.
“Today my colleagues and I give something back to the school that moulded me. I trust that the back-up generator and other improvements will help make a difference and will contribute to the overall learning experience,” said Ms Moholi.
St. John’s College is one of the most prestigious schools in the Eastern Cape and has produced some of the country’s top business people and politicians including Mr Nyati Mthetho-Managing Director Microsoft; Mr Mondi Lumkile-economist; Mr Ngebulana Sisa-CEO @billiongroup; Mr Mlonzi-CEO Lamani; Mr Ringo Madlingozi-music artist and the former President Mr Thabo Mbeki.
The school is well established in mathematics and Physical Science and has received awards for producing top performing learners at Provincial and National level since 2002.
Ms Moholi noted the words of Madiba: “education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
“It is also the most powerful weapon you can use to change your world,” she told learners.”The beauty of it is that there is no finish line. Knowledge is an infinite resource,” concluded Ms Moholi.
