Telkom announces greater broadband speeds

Telkom today announced that ADSL speed upgrades are on the way. This will enable Telkom Internet to effectively increase the value to entry level broadband customers.

The Company revealed the following upgrades to its ADSL offerings: 'Up to 384 kbps' will become 'Up to 1024 kbps' and its 'Up to 1024 kbps' will become 'Up to 2048 kbps'.

The ISP is now positioned to meet the ever increasing demand for greater data capacity and speed. New generation consumer content and business applications will now be possible from Telkom Internet in a more cost effective manner.

"Telkom is enhancing its value proposition to truly differentiate our broadband offerings. We are accelerating the evolution of broadband offerings in the country," says Mr Manelisa Mavuso, Telkom's Managing Director: Consumer Services and Retail.

"This speed upgrade is indicative of the infinite possibilities that Telkom's innovation will enable. We are now in a position to create new products and services that will allow customers to run multiple bandwidth-hungry applications simultaneously and at faster speeds," he adds.

 

The benefits of the speed upgrades are not only relevant to Telkom's residential customers but are equally significant to its business customers.

Through this significant milestone Telkom Business will be able to satisfy the increasing demand for bandwidth and data speeds to its business customer base.

  • W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), a 3G next generation network, including fixed voice services, data services and nomadic voice services;
  • mobile communication services, including voice services, data services and handset sales through our mobile navbar-brand called Telkom Mobile;
  •  information and communication services including cloud services, infrastructure services, workspace services, global service integration management and hardware and network equipment sales locally, in seven African countries, the UK and Dubai through Business Connexion Group; and
  • other services including directory services, through Trudon (Pty) Ltd, wireless data services, through Swiftnet (Pty) Ltd.
