Telkom's Cybernest announces senior appointments

Cybernest, Telkom's Data Centre Operations which was launched in November last year, has appointed Grant Morgan and Althon Beukes as Managing Executives in the business unit.

Pierre Marais, Acting MD of Cybernest, said that "the two individuals were identified after an extensive talent search to lead Cybernest into the exciting future of Data Centre Operations in South Africa and beyond".

Morgan, currently a General Manager for Data Centre and Storage Solutions at Dimension Data, will assume the role of Managing Executive: Cybernest Marketing and Sales from 1 March 2010.

Beukes, a Telkom Executive for Infrastructure and Hosting Services, becomes the Managing Executive: Cybernest Operations with immediate effect.

Grant is widely credited for the key role he has played in pioneering Dimension Data within the data centre environment in South Africa. "He has developed an excellent track record within this field and is synonymous to this arena, having presented at several seminars about data centres," stated Marais.

Having acquired a BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, Grant is currently in the process of completing his MBA from the Wits Business School.

Beukes joined Telkom in 1996 as a Senior Manager in Technology Integration. He became the Executive for Infrastructure and Hosting Services in 2004.

"Althon played a leading role in planning, building and operating Telkom's Data Centre Operations, including the new Belville Centre, in the days leading up to the establishment of Cybernest as a separate business unit. Althon has an in-depth understanding of the IT Operations in the Telkom Group which will stand him in good stead in his new role at Cybernest," stated Marais.

Althon has a BSc Degree in Computer Science from the University of the Western Cape and completed an Executive Development Programme in 2004.

"I welcome both these individuals into their new positions at Cybernest. I am certain that they have the ability and capability to deliver the growth, value and market share that is incumbent on Cybernest to deliver to the Telkom Group," concluded Marais.
