Charlotte Mokoena appointed as CEO of Telkom Management Services

Current Telkom Chief of Human Resources, Charlotte Mokoena, will assume a fresh challenge within the Telkom Group as from 1 November 2009 - that of Chief Executive Officer of Telkom Management Services (TMS).

TMS, structured under the Telkom International Business Unit, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Telkom Group and was created to focus on the needs of African organisations, from corporations and government agencies to telecommunications operators.

Mokoena has been with Telkom for seven years, having previously served as Group Executive for the Telkom Centre for Learning and the Group Executive of Human Resources.

"Human Resource Management enables business to make quick quality decisions about its people. Since TMS is all about the ability to translate human capital into operational and strategic execution, I see my new role as being a natural progression from my former one," said Mokoena.

She added: "Besides being one of the best fixed-line operators on the continent, the Company’s transition from a parastatal towards privatisation and corporatisation that was – until recently – dual-listed, has equipped Telkom with a deep reservoir of intellectual capital and experience."

In general, with fixed-line being the backbone of most telecommunications’ infrastructure, as well as Telkom's strategic refocusing towards wireless and fixed-mobile technologies, Mokoena stated that Telkom was making its unrivalled expertise available to the African continent and the world via TMS.

"All of Telkom’s many achievements are the result of our intellectual capital. This is an asset that must be harnessed to optimally exploit the evolution of technology to the benefit of the continent," she emphasised.

Thami Msimango, Managing Director of Telkom International, stated that Mokoena’s insight into Telkom's intellectual capital, coupled with her solid grasp of the local and African ICT environment, makes her the ideal candidate for her new role, especially as the Company focused on its core strategy of maintaining and growing its market share in South Africa while building a significant footprint in Africa.

He added that Mokoena will be South African-based but that her role was "a Pan-African one".

Created in 2008, TMS incorporates teams that focus on the ICT business in many fields, fixed line and wireless networks, revenue assurance and fraud management, management services procurement, facilities and services management, account management, commercial (legal and finance), programme and project management, logistics and asset management as well as various support teams that are experts in their respective fields.

Telkom Group CEO, Reuben September, will shortly make further announcements pertaining to the position vacated by Mokoena.
