How to set up a secondary device

To set up your device you will need to get the Media Access Control (MAC) address of your device and follow the steps below.

Apple OS X
Windows
Linux

How to find a MAC address on Linux:

  1. In a terminal window type ifconfig and enter.
  2. You'll see a list of interfaces.
  3. Your wireless interface will likely be named wlan0 or wifi0.
  4. The wireless MAC address will be in the field labelled HWaddr.
  5. You can also use iwconfig to find your wireless MAC address if you have it installed.

Once you have found the MAC address of your secondary device, do the following:

  1. Register and/or sign in at the Telkom Self Service at http://www.telkom.co.za/eservices
  2. Add the wireless adapter MAC address of the secondary device.
  3. Connect to the SSID: 1 Telkom Guest.
  4. You will then be authenticated and connected to the internet.

How to find a MAC address on OS X:

  1. Click on Apple Menu.
  2. Click on System Preferences.
  3. Click on Network.
  4. Then click on Advanced.
  5. The MAC address will be at the bottom on the screen

Once you have found the MAC address of your secondary device, do the following:

  1. Register and/or sign in at the Telkom Mobile Self Service at http://www.telkom.co.za/eservices
  2. Add the wireless adapter MAC address of the secondary device.
  3. Connect to the SSID: 1 Telkom Guest.
  4. You will then be authenticated and connected to the internet.

How to find a MAC address on Windows:

  1. Click on Start Menu, and then select the Run item.
  2. Type cmd in the text field.
  3. A terminal window will appear on the screen.
  4. Type ipconfig /all then press enter.
  5. There will be a block of information for each adapter on your computer.
  6. The MAC address will be in the wireless block labelled ‘Phyiscal Address’.

Once you have found the MAC address of your secondary device, do the following:

  1. Register and/or sign in at the Telkom Mobile Self Service at http://www.telkom.co.za/eservices
  2. Add the wireless adapter MAC address of the secondary device.
  3. Connect to the SSID: 1 Telkom Guest.
  4. You will then be authenticated and connected to the internet.
