National Competitions
Telkom SA Level 1 Age Group Championships (50 meter):
this competition serves as an entry level competition into national competitions - your very first step to a swimming career! Aspiring swimmers that fall in the age groups of 10 (ten) and under till 16 (sixteen) can partake in a 50 meter swimming pool competition. These competitions are held on a regional basis in the North, South and Central regions of the country.
Telkom SA Level 2 Age Group Championships (50 meter):
is a step up from the Level 1 competitions as the qualifying times are much faster! This competition allows competitors in the age group of 11 (eleven) and under till 18 (eighteen) to show what they are made of in a 50 meter pool. It is a wonderful opportunity to raise their level of performance and race for medals. The competitions take place on a regional basis.
Telkom SA Level 3 Age Group Championships (50 meter):
is our premier age group competition for the age categories of under 12(twelve) till 18 (eighteen). This event is where SSA primarily selects elite junior teams for international participation such as the Junior Olympics and the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships.
Telkom SA National Aquatic Championships:
this open competition event incorporates all the aquatic disciplines under the auspices of SSA namely, swimming, water polo, diving, synchronized swimming and open water swimming. The swimming part of the event takes place in an Olympic sized pool of 50 meters. It serves as the basis on which all our major international teams are selected to compete at FINA World Championships, All Africa Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games.
Telkom SA National Short Course Championships (25 meter):
in this event swimmers compete over a shorter distance than the normal Olympic sized pool of 50 meters in length. It is an open competition based on whether the swimmer has achieved the qualifying time as per their event instead of the age of the swimmer. Teams are selected from this event to compete in international short course competitions such as the FINA World Cup (25 meters) and the FINA World Championships (25 meters).
