You want Telkom's flagship Broadband product, DSL, with all its exhilarating speed and exciting benefits, but don't want to wait for an appointment with the installation technician?
Self install is available for DSL access only customers or as part of the Do Broadband bundled offerings.
SIO allows you to take care of the part of the DSL installation that takes place on your premises yourself, enabling you to get service quicker than before. Not only that, but you save R543.91 (VAT inclusive) on the installation fee as well!
You will be contacted by Telkom and informed that you may proceed with the self-installation, where after you can collect your modem from any Telkom Direct Shop or have it delivered to your home or office. You must complete the self-installation within 7 days of the instruction to proceed by Telkom. Regardless of whether you complete the self installation or not, Telkom will begin to bill you for the DSL service with effect from 7 days after the instruction to proceed is given. If you are not interested in the complete bundle that Do Broadband offers you can order an ADSL based Internet account from an Internet service provider of your choice.
In order to complete the self-installation, connect the micro-filter to the phone line, connect the side named "line" into the wall side (not the modem side), connect the modem power and the network cable into your personal computer, switch on and run the start-up software from the disc provided with the modem. You will be required to verify your DSL connection. The verification process is built into the start-up software, but if you run into a glitch go to verify dsl. Enter your telephone and order number in the fields provided and click "verify". You will be taken through a verification process and should be able to surf the net within 30 minutes.
If you are unable to successfully complete the self-installation, access the online self help troubleshooter or contact the DSL helpdesk at 0800 375375. If you are still unsuccessful with the SIO, you can opt for a Telkom technician to install the service. However, you will be liable to pay the R543.91 (VAT inclusive) installation fee if a Telkom technician or Telkom appointed contractor is required to complete the installation. An installation is deemed complete once your modem is installed and the service is demonstrated to be in working order on the technician's test equipment. Telkom technicians are not required to install your personal computer, but will demonstrate that the service is working on a test laptop or similar equipment.

You have the choice of a USB or a WiFi modem with 4 Ethernet ports
You can connect wirelessly to the DSL modem or connect up to 4 PC's via the Ethernet ports. Remember to change the default password on the modem once installed for security purposes.
