Broadband is high speed data access to the Internet or your company LAN at line sync speeds higher than 256kbps. Broadband by virtue of its speed makes life easier as you can now access the world of information from the web, whether it be for your childrens school assignment or downloading cool music and even joining the world wide gaming community online.
Broadband can be delivered over various access mediums including ADSL, Wimax and mobile access technologies. Telkom's flagship broadband product is based on the ADSL technology while we service customers that fall outside of the ADSL footprint with Wimax access where possible.
ADSL
ADSL is Broadband access based on an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, a modem based technology that turns an ordinary telephone line into a multi-tasking access medium.
Telkom's stand alone ADSL services are available in 3 speed offerings namely:
- Fast DSL up to 384kbps
- Faster DSL up to 512kbps
- Fastest DSL up to 4096kbps
ADSL speeds offer download speeds more than 7 times faster than normal dial-up speeds.
These stand alone DSL offerings are used by Telkom as well as various other service providers to package Broadband offerings that combine the DSL access, Internet account and value added services such as e-mail, webspace and so on.
Do Broadband
Do Broadband is Telkom's retail broadband offering combining the DSL access and the Internet account into a cost effective, discounted bundle that offers more than just internet access as it provides a portal to services such as music, gaming and educational content.
