  2. Background

    The following number ranges have been allocated by ICASA to VANS and call charges from Telkom to VANS varies between individual companies. The table below indicates the different number range allocated with accociated charges. (Only the first 6-digits are indicated below, although the VANS telephone numbers will still be a 10-digit number, i.e. 087 810 XXXX.)

  4. Background

    Under serviced areas are defined as areas with a low teledensity. Under Service Area Licensees' (USALS) have been licensed to provide communication services in these areas.

    The following number ranges have been allocated to USALS:

      Retail call charges (R/min) 
       Peak Time

    Weekdays from 07:00 to 20:00 

    Off Peak Time

    Weekdays 20:00 to 07:00 and from Friday 20:00 to Monday 07:00.

    Billing Methodology

    • Calls to fixed destinations - Calls are charged per second with a minimum charge of R0.65 (incl VAT) for all calls.
    • Calls to mobile destinations - Calls are charged in increments of one minute for the 1st minute and in increments of 30 seconds thereafter.
