T-Zone is Telkom's HotSpot service that provides wireless data access, using new state of the art technology. Any user with a wireless enabled notebook computer or personal digital assistant (PDA) can connect to the T-Zone service while in the coverage area.
Wireless data access can provide you with connectivity while away from the office;
Standardized technology like the 802.11b or 802.11g will allow users to benefit from economies of scale to get access through the most popular wireless LAN interface technology;
A national roll out of T-Zones will allow users to connect from any of the T-Zone HotSpots by making use of the same account and configuration;
The user will experience an "always available" connection similar to ADSL while in a T-Zone;
The broadband access allows for faster downloading of information or Email.
What does the T-Zone service consist of?
Wireless data connection from the user's portable computer;
Downstream speed: up to 512Kbps;
Upstream speed: up to 256Kbps;
Customer equipment requirements: A computer with an 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network interface properly installed.
Requirements to make use of T-Zone In order to make use of Telkom T-Zone you do require the following:
A wireless (Wi-Fi) enabled notebook computer or personal digital assistant (PDA);
Switch on the Wi-Fi service on your notebook or PDA;
Be within the coverage area of a T-Zone Hotspot; and
Select the wireless network with the network name or Service Set Identification (SSID) of “Telkom”
What are the costs of the service?
At commercial sites the following applies:
The usage of the service is R1.00 per minute including VAT.
High-speed Internet access at R1.00 per minute is very cost effective.
On the Landing Page go to the go to the "Registered Users" portion and select dsl.telkom.co.za from the pull-down menu.
1st Time: Username = DN Number; Password = Telkom Account Number.After login you can change your username and password.

Note: The service was available on a basis but it is now in the process of being commercialized. Accounts will no longer be valid at the commercial sites. The service will relay you to a landing page on which you can obtain access through pre-paid vouchers or by using your credit card to buy credit online. Online purchases of T-zone access via credit card and / or pre-paid vouchers purchases wiill be based on the venue. Once you've obtained access you can register or log in with your voucher PIN or username and password. The vouchers can be used to increase WiFi access time on existing usernames.
