Telkom matches LTE Post-Paid with Prepaid offer

Telkom is offering even more value to its customers by emulating its LTE post-paid offers in the prepaid environment.

Consumers can now migrate to the LTE Smartbroadband Prepaid tariff by purchasing a SIM card and once off LTE data bundles. Both new and existing LTE contract customers are also able to purchase these bundles and reap the benefits as the pricing across the prepaid and contract offers are the same.

These LTE and LTE-A Once-Off prepaid bundles are available to both consumer and business customers who are on Telkom's mobile Network, however existing Telkom prepaid subscribers will need to ensure that they migrate to the new Smartbroadband Wireless LTE prepaid tariff to purchase and make use of the new bundles.

"As part of our commitment to great customer service, we're always looking for ways to offer greater value and convenience. We know that some consumers face entry barriers when wanting to sign a 24-month contract and as such prepaid is their only option. With this understanding Telkom have developed a product that bridges this gap and offer those customers the same connectivity and benefits of a contract now just in a prepaid environment," says Attila Vitai, CEO of Telkom Consumer.

Once customers have purchased the prepaid bundle it will be valid for 31 days from the activation date and will include both anytime data and night surfer data that can be used between 12am and 7am. Once the in-bundle data has been reached the out of bundle data rate of R0.29 will apply.

The LTE/LTE-A Once-Off pre-paid bundles on offer are:

Bundles Size Data Allocation Price
SmartBroadband Wireless 5GB 5GB anytime and 5GB Night Surfer R249
SmartBroadband Wireless 10GB 10GB anytime and 10GB Night Surfer R349
SmartBroadband Wireless 20GB 20GB anytime and 20GB Night Surfer R449
SmartBroadband Wireless 30GB 30GB anytime and 30GB Night Surfer R549
SmartBroadband Wireless 50GB 50GB anytime and 50GB Night Surfer R749
SmartBroadband Wireless 100GB 100GB anytime and 100GB Night Surfer R1049

Subscription to the SmartBroadband Wireless prepaid data plan is subject to the availability of Telkom's LTE network coverage - our coverage map can be viewed here.

Whilst Telkom's LTE/ LTE-A network is a TD-LTE frequency that is supported on the 2300MHz radio frequency spectrum band, the SmartBroadband Wireless Prepaid services does have a 3G failover that is only supported by Telkom's 3G network.

"Our innovative management of spectrum capacity allows us to allocate it more efficiently to achieve greater coverage and deliver faster data speeds and ultimately drive Over The Top services," adds Vitai.

To make the purchasing of the prepaid bundles more convenient for customers Telkom provides various ways in which to make the purchase. Customers can purchase their once off LTE/LTE-A prepaid bundles by using the USSD code *180# from their cellphone, via the self-service portal, via the Telkom App (which is only supported by IOS and Android) or they can speak to a consultant in a Telkom store.
