Telkom implements Substantive Agreement for all employees within the defined bargaining unit

Following the signing of the substantive agreement between Telkom and Communication Workers Union last week and the subsequent meeting with SACU on Wednesday 31 July 2013, the company will implement the said agreement in respect of all employees falling within the defined bargaining unit - members of Solidarity included.

SACU President, Michael Hare indicated "SACU will sign the agreement next week. Based on the outcome of SACU'S ballot process, 45% participated of which we did not get an outright majority not to accept the company's offer as we traditionally work on mandates, we are obliged to conclude an agreement with Telkom".

The company has initiated the implementation process which will entail a special payroll run and the payment of part of the back pay by Wednesday, the 7th of August 2013 with the rest being paid out on Friday, the 23rd of August 2013.

"I wish to express my gratitude to our trade unions for the manner in which they have engaged with us and it again indicates the quality and robust yet constructive nature of the relationship that we have managed to develop over the last few years. Going forward, the same spirit will be required to confront the many challenges facing our organization. With a shared vision for this organization, no challenge will be insurmountable"- commented GCEO, Sipho Maseko.
